Medicare and Medicaid

Medicaid is a public health insurance program in the United States that provides health coverage to low-income individuals and families including children, parents, pregnant women, seniors, and people with disabilities; it is funded jointly by the US federal government and the states. As of July 2020, 66,826,573 individuals were enrolled in Medicaid.


Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, people with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD). As of July 2020, 62,722,096 individuals were enrolled in Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage and other plans.
